iciHaiti - Environment : Preliminary forecasts for the next hurricane season

Two months before the start of the 2024 hurricane season (June 1st) no model can yet issue an official forecast, but the experts are clear : the high surface temperatures of the Atlantic Ocean and the development of the "La Niña" phenomenon in the Pacific could create the conditions necessary for the formation of major hurricanes. For its part, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announces that it will not publish any official forecast before May 23, 2024.

In the meantime, the private institute AccuWeather and Tropical Storm Risk are putting forward their first preliminary forecasts for the 2024 hurricane season.

AccuWeather :

- 20 to 25 tropical storms

- 8 to 12 hurricanes

- 4 to 7 major hurricanes

Tropical Storm Risk: (adjustment of these forecasts planned for April 8, 2024)

- 20 tropical storms

- 9 hurricanes

- 4 major hurricanes.

Next activity forecast updates for the 2024 North Atlantic hurricane season will be made by Colorado State University on April 4th and Tropical Storm Risk on April 8.
