iciHaiti - Canada : 45 million Canadian dollars for school canteens

Antoine Augustin, the Minister of Education and Vocational Training and Wanja Kaaria, the representative of the World Food Programme (WFP) launched on October 22 the "Canada" School Canteen project for the 2024-2025 academic year.

WFP, a partner of the National School Canteen Programme (PNCS), will provide a hot meal to 100,000 students daily for 5 years thanks to this program funded by Canada to the tune of 45 million Canadian dollars.

In her speech, Wanja Kaaria said "By improving their health and nutrition, while helping to keep students in school and improve their academic results, we strengthen their ability to learn and succeed at school."

Minister Augustin reminded that the School Canteen contributes to the development of local production thanks to WFP which purchases local products to feed schoolchildren, which is beneficial for agricultural producers.

The ceremony took place in the presence of the Minister of National Education, the General Coordinator of the National School Canteen Program, the 2nd Country Director of WFP, the Head of Mission of the Canadian Embassy in Haiti, the WFP Regional Representative, the VIVARIO Representative in Haiti, the Director of the National School of the United States Republic, executives and employees of the National School Canteen Program, among others.
