iciHaiti - Education : Fruitful discussions with the French Ambassador

Augustin Antoine Minister of National Education, accompanied by Professor Jean-Robert Dossaint, Director of the Minister's Office; Miguel Fleurijean, Director of Secondary Education and Étienne Louisseul France, Departmental Director of Education of the West received this week Antoine Michon the Ambassador of France accredited to Haiti who was accompanied by Bertrand Ollivier, Political Advisor at the Embassy.

In order to frame this conversation, Minister Antoine elaborated on some priority projects such as : the strengthening of preschool, the improvement of the quality of public education, multilingualism based on the mother tongue, the introduction of four new subjects in the fundamental (Education in technology and productive activities, Aesthetic and artistic education, Physical and sports education, Education in citizenship), the development of the technological sector of the renovated secondary school and the increase in the offer of the school canteen.

On the educational projects, Minister Antoine and Ambassador Michon shared their points of view on the need to ensure teacher training, the development and popularization of revised school programs in order to support the transformation of education in Haiti, which must be more connected to the needs of society.

Furthermore, Ambassador Michon reported on a fund of several million euros that will be injected into the school canteen during the 2024-2025 academic year, in accordance with the strategy of the Haitian State which wishes to increase the share of consumption of local agricultural products in schools.

In the very short term, French cooperation also plans to provide financial support for the rehabilitation of certain public school infrastructures in the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince.

This first meeting between Minister Antoine and the French Ambassador made it possible to explore other areas of educational partnership.
