Friday, January 31, 2025, Emmanuel Pierre, Director General of Civil Protection, closed a week of training workshops for trainers on Disaster Risk Management (DRM) in schools. This training brought together teachers, representatives of the Ministry of National Education, the Departmental Directorate of Education of the West, UNICEF and executives of the Directorate of Civil Protection.

For a week, participants explored educational and methodological tools for integrating DRM into the school curriculum, thus promoting the adoption of good practices in prevention and response to emergencies.

Emmanuel Pierre believes that this workshop, which is part of a series of other initiatives that seek the best formula for integrating risk management in schools, constitutes a new important leap towards the set objective.

He also advocated for teaching DRM, either cross-disciplinary or directly, at all levels of the education system. According to Emmanuel Pierre, the management of major natural hazards in schools is a challenge that requires an integrated, coordinated approach and, above all an in-depth knowledge of the risks that communities face.
