iciHaiti - Environment : 2025 campaign for collecting native and endemic seeds
The Department of Forests and Renewable Energy (DFER) of the Ministry of the Environment has launched its annual campaign to collect native and endemic seeds from Haiti, which aims to promote sustainable development while promoting the conservation of ecosystems.

Agronomist Eder Audate, Director of the DFER, stressed that his entire team is mobilized for the success of this initiative. For two days, the technical staff, employees and interns of the department have been hard at work in the gardens of the Collège Saint-Louis de Gonzague (Delmas 31) to collect seeds of Acajou Pays Swietenia mahagoni.

During these collection days, the DFER was able to collect more than 7 bags of 51kg of seeds each. This quantity, once processed, will allow the reforestation of approximately 280 hectares, with a planting spacing of 4m X 7m per tree

As for many other native species, this approach aims to strengthen the presence of Acajou Pays, increase the wooded lots and especially reforest critical forest areas. By next week, this activity will extend to several departments, including the Central Plateau, the North and the North-East.

In just four months, these seeds will give rise to Acajou Pays seedlings that will be available in nurseries, ready to be used for the next reforestation campaigns.
