iciHaiti - Unesco : New Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of Haiti
On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, Ms. Lilas Desquiron presented her credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Ms. Audrey Azoulay, accrediting her as Permanent Delegate Ambassador.

Ms. Lilas Desquiron, former Minister of Culture, returns to UNESCO, where she had already served as Haiti's representative on the Organization's Executive Board between 2016 and 2017. Ms. Desquiron took advantage of her meeting with the Director-General to outline the national priorities and strategic vision that will guide her actions within the UN Organization : education, protection and preservation of heritage, educational radio and television, and strengthening ties with the Africa Group.

Ambassador Desquiron appreciates the immense responsibility she has to continue to carry the voice of Haiti within this specialized UN body.

Ms. Azoulay reiterated her unwavering commitment to continuing close cooperation between UNESCO and Haiti in the Organization’s areas of expertise.

Passionate about art, Ms. Desquiron has devoted much of herself to promoting Haitian heritage to make known the cultural richness of her native land. Holder of a doctorate in ethnology and a specialist in Afro-American religions, particularly Haitian Vodou, she has also pursued a career as a writer. Her various publications are a testament to her deep attachment to Haitian popular culture and the ideals of justice, peace and equality.
