Alerted by the population of the commune of Ouanaminthe about cases of abusive and illegal tree cutting on the banks of the Massacre River, an area serving as a natural protection for the town, the Northeast Departmental Directorate of the Ministry of the Environment quickly mobilized the relevant judicial authorities.

On the instructions of the town's Justice of the Peace, the Departmental Police arrested six individuals involved in these acts of unlawful tree cutting and destruction of vegetation cover in an ecologically sensitive area.

The arrested individuals were taken into custody, awaiting appropriate legal action.

The Departmental Directorate reaffirms its commitment to protecting the department's natural resources and encourages the public to report any wrongdoing that threatens the environment.
