iciHaiti - Economy : Visit to Haiti by IDB President Ilan Goldfjan
At the invitation of the Haitian Government, the President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Ilan Goldfajn, is conducting a 48-hour visit to Haiti (May 8-9, 2025). This visit will focus on the North and Northeast departments.

During his stay, the IDB delegation, comprising five high-ranking members, will hold plenary discussions with Haitian authorities on priorities and prospects for collaboration in the national context. Sectoral meetings and field visits to ongoing projects will help assess and boost collaboration, particularly with a view to relaunching regional cooperation.

Ilan Goldfajn will meet with Fritz Alphonse Jean, President pro tempore of the Transitional Council. They will discuss the possibility of increased technical and financial support for Haiti, which is going through a difficult but significant period of change.

Despite persistent structural challenges, this visit aims to strengthen the IDB's commitment to Haiti in key areas such as education, social protection, road infrastructure, drinking water, governance, public administration, culture, and local development.

Sectoral meetings and visits to ongoing projects will assess and boost collaboration, particularly with a view to revitalizing regional cooperation.

These high-level meetings will allow the Haitian government to consolidate the partnership between Haiti and the IDB, discuss the progress of ongoing projects, explore modalities for increased technical and financial support in priority areas, present the strategic orientations of the transition, support Haiti in its quest to secure financing for the Rapid Crisis Impact Assessment (RCIA), a project prepared by the Haitian government with technical support from major donors, including the IDB, and analyze implementation problems for certain projects for which very few disbursements have been made.
