As part of the celebration of Haitian Flag Day (May 18), the National Library of Haiti (BNH) wishes to highlight youth engagement through a writing contest that pays tribute to Catherine Flon (1772-1831), a historical figure and symbol of Haitian patriotism, who sewed the red and blue stripes of fabric, giving us the two-tone symbol of our pride and dignity as human beings driven by the firm desire to end the barbarity of slavery.

This project is part of the BNH's educational and civic mission, aimed at promoting historical memory, literary creativity, and youth participation in the country's cultural life.

Submit your letter to Catherine Flon, tell her how you feel, what you dream for your country, and what you expect from the future. Email her at com.bnh@gmail.com.

The contest is open to all young people aged 14 to 19.

Deadline : May 15, 2025 to participate.
