On Wednesday, June 25, around 7:00 a.m., a terrible accident occurred at the southern entrance to the commune of Gonaïves, specifically in the Pont-Gaudin area, not far from the Quinte River bridge.

A tanker truck carrying fuel from Port-au-Prince, attempting to avoid a collision with a public transit van, struck several motorcycles and crushed several pedestrians on the sidewalk before ending up in a ravine, catching fire, and exploding.

According to preliminary reports, the accident left at least four people burned to death, including three students from the same family : Woodelanka Démosthène (14 years old), Woodmia Démosthène (10), and Wodelanka Démosthène (10), who were on their way to school. The truck driver also died in the accident.

Several other people at the scene suffered serious burns and were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Others suffered minor burns.

No official death toll has yet been released.
