iciHaiti - Social : Major advances by the Government in social policy

On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, as part of the 20th edition of the Tuesdays of the Nation, Georges Wilbert Franck, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST), outlined the government's major progress in social policy.

He recalled that at least 3,000 displaced families living in makeshift camps had already received financial assistance in July (checks for 99,000 Gourdes per family https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-45375-icihaiti-displaced-persons-relocation-check-distribution-operations-continue.html ), as part of the first phase of the National Program to Support the Relocation of Displaced Persons. This operation also aims to free several strategic public institutions, such as the Faculty of Applied Linguistics, the Anténor Firmin High School, and the Caroline Chauveau School.

At the initiative of Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, five new projects have been included in the MAST's 2024-2025 Public Investment Program. They reflect the government's commitment to strengthening the social and productive State :

• Support for Haitian crafts through the structuring of the National Office of Crafts (ONART), the opening of three regional craft shops, and the creation of a credit portfolio for artisans. The official launch is scheduled for August 11;

• Modernization of the Social Assistance Fund (CAS);

• Institutional strengthening of the MAST;

• National professional internship program: 20,000 young graduates will be integrated by 2026. A draft legal framework to guarantee access to internships is already under review;

• Reform of the Haitian Labor Code, for better worker protection and a more attractive job market.

Minister Franck also announced the imminent resumption of check distributions to displaced families.
