iciHaiti - 234th Bois-Caïman : Grand sociocultural celebration evening

On the night of August 14-15, 2025, at the Bois-Caïman site, the Ministry of Culture organized a major sociocultural evening open to the general public.

Imbued with solemnity and pride, this evening, which marked the end of the commemoration of the 234th anniversary of Bois-Caïman, aimed to pay a vibrant tribute to the men and women who, during the Bois-Caïman Ceremony, laid the foundations of the revolt that led to the creation of the world's first free Black republic.

Performances by artists such as Jenn Danto from Cap-Haitien, Banda Gwoup, and Chango Bastia thrilled the audience. The Palto Vanyan troupe presented a play retracing the history of Haiti from the crossing to the Revolution of 1804.

The traditional activities of the Lakou and Voodoo Societies were also highlighted, highlighting the importance of ancestral practices in preserving our identity and collective memory.

Through this celebration, the Ministry of Culture wished to reaffirm the importance of historical memory while saluting the resistance and courage of our ancestors. This socio-cultural evening was both a tribute and an act of transmission, demonstrating the commitment of the Haitian state and people to preserving the heritage of Bois Caïman, a symbol of freedom, dignity, and sovereignty.
