iciHaiti - Social : SIMAS Alternative Data Collection Methodologies
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST) held a two-day workshop on alternative data collection methodologies for the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Information System (SIMAST).

SIMAST is a strategic tool that facilitates the identification of vulnerable households and the monitoring of social program beneficiaries in Haiti. Thanks to this system, more than 30% of the population in 92 municipalities has already been identified.

"SIMAST must become the country's single social registry," declared the Director General, reaffirming Minister Georges Wilbert Franck's commitment to continuing this collaborative effort so that the results translate into concrete actions for the benefit of vulnerable households and communities.

According to Ms. Marie Hérole Michel, Director General of MAST, these workshops provided an opportunity to examine SIMAST's alternative data collection methodologies, analyze the proposed alternative methodologies, assess their feasibility, effectiveness, and relevance in the Haitian context, and formulate concrete recommendations for the adoption of two methodologies, with a view to pilot deployment, particularly in areas affected by insecurity.

For his part, SIMAST Coordinator, Mr. Deslandes Donald Rozefort OZEFORT, expressed his satisfaction with the responses and proposals shared during the two-day workshop.

These two-day workshops were attended by national and international experts in data collection methodologies, as well as financial and operational partners such as the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES), the World Food Programme (WFP), UNICEF, the Diagnostic & Development Group S.A. (DDG), the Catholic Relief Services (CRS), the National Food Security Coordination Office (CNSA), the Ministry of Public Health (MSPP), the National Identification Office (ONI), the National Center for Geospatial Information (CNIGS), and the Haitian Institute of Statistics and Informatics (IHSI).
