iciHaiti - Environment : More than 11,000m3 of waste already collected

As part of the emergency cleanup plan for the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area launched by the Government, the Ministry of the Environment (MdE) plays a central role through the National Solid Waste Management Service (SNGRS), the Directorate of Living Environment and Sanitation, and the Directorate of Environmental Inspection and Surveillance.

This vast campaign is overseen by the MdE with the assistance of its technical teams, working closely with other sectoral ministries, including the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Local Authorities. This synergy aims to provide concrete relief to the sanitation problems affecting the metropolitan area (Delmas, Tabarre, Port-au-Prince, and Pétion-ville) as well as the city of Cap-Haitien.

Moïse Fils Jean Pierre, the Minister of the Environment, took this opportunity to reiterate his commitment to combating the problem of solid waste in all its forms for the benefit of the Haitian population.

The initial results of this mobilization are already visible : approximately 5,345 cubic meters of waste have already been collected in the metropolitan area, particularly in Clercine, Tabarre, Delmas, and Pétion-ville. Cleaning operations have also been carried out on the Léo Ménard Canal and the Cérisier Ravine, illustrating the scale of the efforts deployed. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-45756-haiti-flash-life-is-slowly-returning-to-downtown-port-au-prince-video.html

At the same time, a similar operation is being conducted in Cap-Haitien, where nearly 6,000 cubic meters of waste have already been collected. This first phase of the program, scheduled to last one month, marks a decisive step in the thorough cleanup of the country's main cities.
