iciHaiti - Agriculture : PAPAIR Program beneficiaries satisfied with initial results

At the end of the spring 2025 agricultural season, beneficiaries of the Program to Support Agricultural and Fisheries Productivity and Improve Rural Infrastructure for Market Access (PAPAIR), funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), expressed their satisfaction with the initial results they have achieved in the town of Guilloux, located in Bérault, in the 2nd communal section of Torbeck (South Department).

Jean Vilaire Charles explains that today, all eyes are on his small but thriving plantation, which covers 2,500 m².

"My plantation is becoming a benchmark in the area today, unlike when I grew time-consuming crops with very little added value.

Today, thanks to the PAPAIR program, through its agronomist mentors and farmer extension workers, the area is adopting the use of organic fertilizers and the most effective and appropriate techniques for growing yams."

The commune of Torbeck, one of PAPAIR's main intervention areas, has approximately 692 assisted beneficiaries and dozens of hectares of land under cultivation. This suggests that the efforts deployed by the PAPAIR program will have a multiplier effect. According to realistic projections, the use of the promoted organic fertilizer and the provision of other agricultural inputs to farmers will lead to a doubling, or even more, of yields and, consequently, an improvement in local food availability.
