iciHaiti - North and Centre regions : Plan to assist 1,500 families

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO-Haiti) and the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) have launched a plan in North and Center of Haiti to assist families affected by internal displacement, expulsions from the Dominican Republic, and the consequences of droughts and storms.

This initiative aims to enable these communities to produce their own food and better withstand major climate-related hazards.

The program will support approximately 1,500 families by providing them with seeds, fodder, and cash. In addition to rehabilitating irrigation canals and building shelters for livestock, the program also includes training for farmers in climate-resilient agricultural techniques.

According to the latest international assessment, nearly half of the Haitian population is experiencing a severe food crisis. In many rural communities, families are reducing their food intake or skipping meals altogether to survive. "Producing food locally is the only way to have a lasting impact," emphasized Pierre Vauthier, FAO Representative in Haiti.
