iciHaiti - CODEVI : The Haitian Government takes measures and reassures

In light of the recent social unrest last week surrounding the Compagnie de Développement Industriel (CODEVI) industrial park, which resulted in its temporary closure (18,000 jobs), the Haitian Government assures the entire population in general, as well as the workers, union members, and managers of the park's businesses in particular, that it is sparing no effort to preserve the thousands of jobs available in the Northeast department.

It has not hesitated to take all kinds of measures to ensure the safety of the park, its workers, and those who frequent it.

To meet the demands of the Codevi Park workers, government representatives organized working and negotiation sessions with union members, park managers, and workers, which resulted in the adoption of several important decisions, such as :

• The suspension of certain tax obligations (10% on salaries);

• Addressing the issue related to services provided by the National Old Age Insurance Office (ONA) and the Office for Workplace Accident, Sickness, and Maternity Insurance (OFATMA), regarding access to insurance cards and healthcare;

A tripartite meeting with representatives of the executive branch, unions, and employers will be held to discuss the minimum wage issue.

The Government believes it has met all the demands presented to it and seeks the support and understanding of all stakeholders. The Government affirms its readiness to continue frank and courteous dialogue with representatives of the relevant ministries to enable the Park's workers, managers, and customers to operate in an appropriate and peaceful environment.
