Patricia Lattanzio, Member of Parliament for Saint-Léonard–Saint-Michel (Montreal, QC), announced $299,910 in federal funding for the Maison d’Haïti to support the first edition of the “Afro-descendant Biennale in Motion” (April 2025 to March 2026). This funding is provided through the Projects component of the Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Program at Canadian Heritage.

“A strong and inclusive Canada is a country where everyone sees themselves reflected in cultural stories, stages, and spaces. Culture is not only an expression of our identity; it is a fundamental pillar of our sovereignty and economic strength. The Maison d’Haïti does important work to bring together all members of the community. We are proud to support projects that combat racism, celebrate our cultural diversity, and support artists, such as the Afro-descendant Biennale en Mouvement," said Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages, who initiated this assistance.

Thanks to this support, the Maison d'Haïti is continuing its first "Afro-descendant Biennale in Motion" which includes several activities that promote the talent, creativity, and inclusion of female artists in the cultural sector. The project increases their visibility, strengthens their leadership skills, and increases networking and professional development opportunities. It also helps raise public awareness of the issues of discrimination and underrepresentation these artists face in the creative sector.

"The Maison d'Haïti is delighted to be able to count on the support of Canadian Heritage for the holding of our Afro-descendant Biennale in Motion. This support helps showcase the talent and creativity of women artists of African descent in our communities, while promoting intercultural exchanges," said Arcelle Appolon, Executive Director of the Maison d'Haïti.
