![]() iciHaiti - Politic : French cooperation on all fronts in the North 21/10/2025 10:13:47
At each stop, he met with local authorities, French cooperation partners in Haiti, and project beneficiaries. This tour provided the French diplomat with an opportunity to interact directly with stakeholders working on the ground with the local population. These initiatives demonstrate the lasting partnership between France and Haiti. This rich cooperation is made possible thanks to the unwavering investment of the French Development Agency (AFD) in all regions of the country over the past 50 years. Fort Liberté : Support for School Meals At Fort Liberté, he visited the premises of the Collective for the Fight against Social Exclusion (CLES), a key partner of the National School Meal Program (PNCS), of which France has been a major donor since 2005. For the years 2023-2025, French funding enabled the Collective to supply more than 450 tons of agricultural products to school canteens, benefiting 3,500 farmers and 1,500 livestock producers, who were able to enhance and increase their production. This activity generated nearly $880,000 in income for the network of producers that make up the CLES, and created more than 600 local jobs. This momentum is expected to continue in 2025-2026 with €5 million in funding for school canteens from the PNCS (National School for Children) and the World Food Programme (WFP). In the Northeast department alone, more than 6,000 students will be able to benefit from a daily meal prepared entirely with local products. Cap-Haitien : Strengthening Child Protection In Cap-Haitien, the Ambassador visited the NGO SOS Children's Villages Haiti, which is implementing the "Children's Rights through Responsible Parenthood - DEPARE II" project, funded by the French Development Agency (AFD) to the tune of €1 million. More than 3,300 direct beneficiaries—children, youth, parents, and community leaders—are participating in this initiative, which places the family at the heart of child protection in eight locations in the North department, from Madeline to Vertières. Limbé : Support for Sustainable Agriculture In Limbé, in the heart of Haiti's northern watershed, the Ambassador met with beneficiaries of the Sustainable Development Project (PAD), implemented by the French NGO Agrisud with funding from the AFD (French Development Agency). https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-45924-icihaiti-limbe-positive-impacts-of-a-sustainable-development-project.html Since 2014, this project has supported more than 550 family farms and 22 para-agricultural service units (processing cassava, rice, corn, peanuts, cocoa, etc.). It contributes to the structuring of local production sectors such as pineapple, ginger, rice, leeks, and peanuts. Haut-Fourneau : Mangrove Preservation In Haut-Fourneau, in the Northwest, he appreciated the work of the Haitian Biodiversity Fund (FHB), also supported by the AFD, which finances the actions of the local organization GADEL to preserve the mangroves https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-45943-icihaiti-environment-france-and-the-preservation-of-mangroves.html Lower Northwest : Acting for Fundamental Rights, Services, and Local Governance In the municipalities of Jean Rabel, Baie de Henne, Bombardopolis, and Môle Saint Nicolas, the Ambassador visited several projects led by the NGOs ATD Quart Monde, Entraide médicale internationale Initiative Développement, PARTAGE, and ADEMA, which benefit from AFD support. The Support for Public Schools in the Lower North-West region project, implemented by the NGO PARTAGE in partnership with ADEMA, helps strengthen the education system by supporting 30 public schools, including more than 6,000 students, 240 teachers, and 30 principals, who benefit from assistance aimed at improving the quality of teaching, local governance, and educational continuity in a context of crisis. https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-45950-icihaiti-social-france-supports-projects-in-remote-rural-areas.html In the health sector, the Timama I and II programs, led by the French NGOs Entraide Médicale Internationale (EMI) and Initiative Développement, are increasing access to healthcare in isolated rural areas, particularly for mothers and children. Timama supports the management of health centers, staff training, the supply of essential medicines, and carries out prevention initiatives that enable thousands of families to access quality, local health services. Jean Rabel : The Ambassador met with the team from the local organization "Lite Pou Demen Nou" (LIDE-N), which, thanks to funding from the Innovative Projects of Civil Societies and Coalitions of Actors (PISCCA) fund, is conducting awareness-raising activities against teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases among young people. It has also set up a credit service for 120 women to promote their financial independence through income-generating activities. Finally, the Action for Citizen Participation and Inclusive Territories (ACTIF) program, led by Initiative Développement and ADEMA, supports citizen participation, the inclusion of women and young people, and local dialogue in eight town halls in the Northwest through consultation spaces and collective initiatives.
