iciHaiti - Cap-Haitien : To Sustain and Grow the Transition Economy

From October 29 to 31, 2025, the City of Cap-Haitien participated in the Global Social and Solidarity Economy Forum (GSEF 2025), held in Bordeaux, France, under the theme "To Sustain and Grow the Transition Economy".

Cap-Haitien is a member of the "Cities in Economic Transition" Commission of the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF). It was represented at the forum by Nelson Deshommes, Head of Communications, and Farah Belance, Director of Financial Affairs for the City Hall.

During the Commission meeting, Deshommes presented the municipal initiative "Cap-Haitien in Transition", an integrated approach focused on cleanliness, resilience, and inclusive development. "Cap-Haitien in Transition was born from the ambition to transform our urban challenges into opportunities for sustainable and inclusive development."

Faced with unsanitary conditions, flood risks, and urban congestion, the municipality has chosen a path of transition based on citizen mobilization, institutional cooperation, and local innovation."
