Launched in August 2025, the restoration work on Fort Alexandre is progressing. Clearing vegetation, treating the foundations, and consolidating the walls : he work carried out by the Institute for the Safeguarding of National Heritage (ISPAN) is part of the "Development, Restoration, and Protection of Heritage Sites" project, funded by the Public Treasury. The project aims to restore and enhance heritage sites throughout the country. Currently, implementation is taking place across several sites, including the Citadelle National Historical Park, Sans-Souci, Ramiers (PNH-CSSR), Fort Magny, Fort Saint Joseph (work completed), and the former Cap prison (work completed), before expanding to other sites and monuments in future fiscal years. Fort Alexandre, located a few hundred meters from Fort Jacques in the hills above Pétion-ville, was built starting in 1804 by General Alexandre Pétion. It was erected on the orders of Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines. This fort, along with others, served to consolidate freedom following the independence of the Haitian nation from French colonial rule. IH/ iciHaiti
