iciHaiti - Insecurity : Barbancourt targeted by bandits
The Barbancourt Rum Company reports in a statement that a serious incident occurred on Tuesday, November 4th, 2025, in Delmas 65, when a Barbancourt service pickup truck was intercepted by heavily armed bandits in an attempted kidnapping.

During the attack, the Barbancourt Rum Company driver was shot. Despite being rushed to the hospital in Delmas 33, the employee unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

This tragedy is the latest of a series of attacks and criminal acts targeting Barbancourt Rum Company and its employees since 2021, including :

• 2021-2022 : Several kidnappings of company employees;

• 2023 : Multiple kidnappings and repeated attacks by armed gangs against the Barbancourt distillery;

• February 2024 : Arson destroys 8 hectares of sugarcane fields https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-41649-haiti-insecurity-the-barbancourt-foundation-forced-to-suspend-its-activities-for-the-benefit-of-the-populations.html

• December 2024 : Attack on a delivery truck, resulting in four victims

• June 2025 : Kidnapping of a company employee.

These repeated attacks reflect the reality of a climate of widespread insecurity in which Haitian businesses and citizens operate. They underscore the urgent need for collective action to restore public safety and guarantee the protection of lives and property throughout the country.

The Barbancourt Rum Company extends its deepest condolences to the family of our employee and to his loved ones. We share their pain and sorrow during this difficult time. The Barbancourt Foundation will take care of his wife and children.
