iciHaiti - Cap-Haitien : Commemoration of the Battle of Vertières
On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, the Cap-Haitien City Hall, along with departmental authorities and numerous schoolchildren and students, participated in official activities organized in Vertières, at the Notre-Dame de l’Assomption Cathedral and at City Hall, to commemorate the 222nd anniversary of the Battle of Vertières.

November 18, 1803, marked a decisive turning point in Haitian history. The ceremony included a floral offering at the foot of the Vertières monuments, a symbolic gesture to honor our ancestors who paved the way for freedom for the Haitian people and for Black people worldwide.

In her address, Angeline Bell, the Mayor of Cap-Haïtien, reminded everyone that November 18, 1803, was the starting point of our revolution, and that after 222 years, this revolution must continue through the actions, decisions, and commitment of every citizen. She made a passionate appeal for unity, while praising the courage, determination, and love of country that inspire the people of Cap-Haitien.

In a context marked by significant environmental, economic, social, and humanitarian challenges, she emphasized that only collective action will make it possible to overcome today's difficulties and build a more promising future for the city and the country.
