iciHaiti - Insecurity : Arson at the Sacred Heart Institution in Turgeau
On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the Sacred Heart Institution of Turgeau expressed its profound sorrow in a press release following the attack and partial arson of its premises by unidentified individuals. The damage is extensive; classrooms, administrative offices, and several spaces dedicated to school activities were burned. As of Wednesday, the reasons for this attack were still unknown.

Sacred Heart Press Release :
"[...] It is not just a building that has been burned : years of work have been destroyed, especially after the numerous efforts and sacrifices made to rebuild the school after it was damaged by the 2010 earthquake. To deliberately set fire to it is to attack an entire community, education itself, in a country already adrift.

This barbaric, irresponsible, and criminal act deeply affects and shocks us. He destroyed memories and tried to break the motivation of those who rise each day to learn or teach.

This space of knowledge allowed several generations of students to flourish, each choosing, at the end of their schooling, powerful mottos filled with audacity, hope, dreams, and empathy. They became women who made a difference in Haiti and around the world. Many chose to enroll their daughters in their alma mater and have continued to demonstrate their attachment to it over the years.

Despite the pain, we remain steadfast to affirm that education will always be stronger than destruction, faithful to our motto, repeated at the end of our school anthem : 'I serve Christ, I serve the Church, I serve the Homeland with all my heart.'"
