On Tuesday, December 2, 2025, under the authority of Agronomist Emmanuel Jean François, Director of Agriculture for the North Department, the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR), in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), officially accepted the completed rehabilitation work on the "La Suisse" irrigation system in the commune of Plaine du Nord.

This project, funded by the French Embassy, ​​carried out by the firm INIBU Agro Construction, and supervised by the IOM and the North Departmental Directorate of Agriculture (DDAN), included the reconstruction of 60 linear meters of canal, the plastering and waxing of an additional 80 linear meters, the rehabilitation of 33 water gates on the main and secondary canals, and the extension of 250 linear meters of masonry canal, plastered and waxed, significantly improving water distribution to agricultural plots.

More than 40 local workers benefited from temporary employment during the construction phase, strengthening the project's socio-economic impact. The handover ceremony was held in the presence of representatives from the Ministry, the DDAN (Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources), the Communal Agricultural Bureau (BAC) of the Northern Plain, the IOM (International Organization for Migration), the INIBU Agroc Construction firm, and the irrigation system management committee, demonstrating the institutional commitment to the sustainable development of hydro-agricultural infrastructure in the North Department.
