iciHaïti - PNH : Training for police officers on gender-based violence 07/12/2025 09:37:30
As part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) (November 25 to December 10), the Haitian National Police (PNH), through its National Coordination for Women's Affairs and Gender Issues, in collaboration with the TOYA Foundation, organized a training day this week for PNH police officers and managers on GBV. Led by psychologist Katia Hilaire of the TOYA Foundation, this session provided a space for discussion, awareness-raising, and in-depth reflection on the role of the police institution in protecting women, girls, and all victims of violence. This included active listening, confidentiality, respect for human dignity, and understanding the community role of police officers in preventing, receiving, and supporting victims of GBV. The TOYA Foundation also used this event to present existing resources, including the 3601-2121 emergency hotline and the "Alo TOYA" mobile application, designed to break the silence surrounding gender-based violence. This platform provides easy access to information on psychological, psychosocial, and referral services available through several partner organizations. IH/ iciHaiti
