hereHaiti - National School of Colombia : Fire in the IDPs camp
On the afternoon of Sunday, December 21, 2025, a violent fire broke out in the displaced persons camp located on the premises of the National School of Colombia in Bourdon, causing panic among the residents of the Solino neighborhood.

According to witnesses, the fire originated from a gas cylinder explosion, which injured several people. The fire quickly spread to the tents and makeshift shelters. Many refugee families reportedly lost everything in the flames.

Herwil Gaspard, the Minister of Solidarity and Humanitarian Affairs, accompanied by officials from the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES) and the General Directorate of Civil Protection, visited the site on Sunday to assess the situation, meet with the camp committee, gather initial grievances from the displaced, and announce the first measures.

On the Prime Minister's instructions, in addition to continuing social programs, the cleanup of the site will begin this Monday, December 22, through a "cash for work" program. This initiative will not only rehabilitate the damaged section of the camp but will also provide an immediate source of income for displaced persons.

Appeals for immediate assistance focus on :

Non-food needs :
Mattresses, blankets, buckets, and cooking utensils.

Food aid :
Hot meals, as makeshift cooking facilities have been destroyed.

Hygiene :
Dignity kits, soap, sanitary napkins, and drinking water to prevent epidemics such as cholera.

The intervention of the fire department helped limit the spread of the disaster.

No official figures have yet been released regarding the number of victims and the extent of the damage.
