In recent days, the Dajabón border crossing has seen a steady stream of Haitian citizens returning home for the traditional Christmas and New Year holidays to reunite with family and friends in Haiti.

Other Haitians, carrying their belongings and accompanied by family members, are voluntarily returning to Haiti, driven by fear and exhaustion stemming from the constant harassment by Dominican immigration authorities throughout the country.

Should be noted that according to official statistics from the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), 115,461 Haitians living in the Dominican Republic without proper documentation returned "voluntarily" to their country of origin during the first eight months of 2025.

Border authorities have intensified their surveillance in the border area to regulate traffic and maintain order during the migrants' return over this festive holiday period.
