iciHaïti - Health : More than 92% of treated water sachets analyzed do not meet standards
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI), through its Directorate of Quality Control and Consumer Protection (DCQPC), organized a public presentation of the results of a study on drinking water quality in the Port-au-Prince Metropolitan Area and its surroundings.

In his address, Minister James Monazard framed this initiative as respecting the fundamental right to drinking water, stating, "Water, the source of life, cannot be considered a mere commodity, but rather a pillar of human dignity, public health, and development."

A study conducted by the DCQPC between August 2025 and January 2026 revealed alarming findings. According to this report, more than 92% of the water sachets analyzed do not meet standards, with deficiencies in registration and labeling requirements, according to Papyto Vilvrty, Assistant Director of the DCQPC (Directorate of Quality Control and Public Procurement).

In light of this finding, Minister Monazard announced the adoption of drastic measures to improve water quality management practices within treatment plants and packaging companies. He will implement an immediate, inter-institutional action plan to strengthen regulations, intensify controls, and guarantee safe access to drinking water for consumers, in accordance with the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goal 6.
