iciHaiti - Environment : In Mouline, resilience is no longer just talk !

In the commune of Beaumont, Mouline section, in the Grand'Anse department, something has changed. Faced with ecosystem degradation, erosive ravines, and climate vulnerability, the community chose not to wait, but to act.

Thanks to the support of the Macaya Grand South 3 Project (MGS3), implemented by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP-Haiti), a community-based environmental governance platform has been established and strengthened. Today, this platform brings together 12 members from 12 different localities, with the active involvement of the Communal Section Administrative Council (CASEC), which guarantees its institutional grounding and local legitimacy.

The results are already visible :

• Establishment of agro-ecological gardens;

• Restoration of a ravine to protect agricultural land;

• Raising awareness about hygiene, water, sanitation, and waste management;

• Structured and regular meetings promoting community dialogue.

What Mouline demonstrates is fundamental : when governance is inclusive, structured, and owned by the community, it becomes a true lever for environmental and social resilience.
