On Friday, June 12, 2026, on the sidelines of activities related to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, accompanied by Foreign Minister Raina Forbin, met with Boston City Councilwoman Ayanna Pressley and advocated for the renewal of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals. The Prime Minister commended Ms. Pressley's unwavering commitment to the Haitian community in the United States, particularly her advocacy for TPS renewal. He expressed his gratitude to the American elected officials, civil society organizations, and community leaders mobilized in support of this cause, which affects hundreds of thousands of Haitians. The discussions focused on the significant contribution of the Haitian diaspora to the economic, social, and cultural life of the United States, as well as the role of remittances and the sharing of expertise in Haiti's development. Both parties emphasized the need to further strengthen ties between Haiti and its diaspora. The Prime Minister also outlined the Government's priorities, including restoring security, strengthening the Haitian National Police and the Haitian Armed Forces, and organizing credible and inclusive elections. He stressed the importance of international support for the Gang Supression Force and on continuing efforts to sustainably restore stability to the country. Finally, the discussions addressed economic development and job creation as sustainable responses to migration challenges. In this regard, the Prime Minister reiterated the importance of renewing the HOPE/HELP trade programs, which are essential for maintaining thousands of jobs in Haiti and improving prospects for young people. At the end of the meeting, both parties agreed to continue the dialogue and strengthen cooperation for the well-being of Haitian communities, both in Haiti and within the diaspora. IH/ iciHaiti
