Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé :

Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé learned with deep sadness of the death of trumpeter, composer and arranger André Déjean at the age of 75, which occurred on Friday September 11, 2026 in a hospital in Florida.

A founding member, alongside his brothers, of the legendary group "Les Frères Déjean" in the 1960s, André Déjean left his mark with his breath and his talent on nearly six decades of Haitian music. He was also, more recently, the trumpet of the group Nu Look, alongside Arly Larivière, helping to promote Kompa well beyond our borders.

Through the richness of his melodies, the rigor of his art and his unwavering love for the national culture, André Déjean leaves to posterity a work which now belongs to the musical heritage of Haiti and the world.

"The Prime Minister, Fils-Aimé, in his name and on behalf of the Government, presents his most moved condolences to his family, his loved ones, as well as to the entire Haitian artistic and cultural community and the diaspora, bereaved by this loss.

May the earth be light to him. His music will continue to live among us."

Emmanuel MENARD, Minister of Culture and Communication, learned with deep sadness of the death of Haitian trumpeter André Déjean.

Member of the orchestra "Les Frères Déjean", created in 1963 by saxophonist Lyonel Déjean, (first under the name “Les Frères de Pétion-ville”) André Déjean became one of the pillars of the group alongside siblings made up of Fred, Philippe and Camille.

Through his immense talent, he contributed to shaping the musical identity of this family group and raising it to the forefront of the great orchestras in the history of Kompa.

The Ministry pays tribute to a creator whose prowess has marked generations of music lovers and contributed to the influence of Haitian music both nationally and internationally. His contribution to the composition and arrangement of several classics of the Haitian popular repertoire testifies to the place he occupies in our cultural heritage. His work remains a precious heritage to be preserved and transmitted.

On the list of musicians to be honored this year, André Déjean, hospitalized in Florida, was unfortunately unable to receive his plaque of honor from the hands of Prime Minister Fils-Aimé and Minister Emmanuel Ménard.

"In this painful circumstance, the Ministry of Culture and Communication, on behalf of the Government, presents its sincere condolences to the family of the famous deceased, to his loved ones, to his admirers, to the members of the Les Frères Déjean orchestra as well as to the entire Haitian musical and cultural community."
