Gonaïves : Handover of equipment, works and actions 23/08/2026 09:24:32
The second day of the inter-ministerial mission to Gonaïves was marked by several concrete actions aimed at strengthening local capacities, improving living conditions, and addressing the priority needs of communities. A set of equipment was handed over to the Gonaïves municipal road maintenance department and the Artibonite departmental directorate of the Ministry of the Environment. The set includes more than 50 wheelbarrows, approximately 100 shovels, 100 pickaxes, brooms, and two motorcycle tricycles, intended to enhance the operational capacity of sanitation teams. On Route des Dattes, dredging work has begun thanks to the joint efforts of teams from the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Public Works, and the Gonaïves city hall. This intervention is the first step in a larger project to rehabilitate this historic avenue, which includes the installation of streetlights and the planting of date palms to improve the living environment and restore this iconic thoroughfare to its former glory. The delegation then visited the three Lakou (traditional villages) of Badjo, Souvenance, and Soukri, where they met with local leaders to discuss various community needs. During this visit, Valéry Fils-Aimé, the Minister of the Environment, announced measures to improve access to water, notably through the installation, in the coming weeks, of pumps to support communities, particularly for irrigating agricultural land. The mission continued in Terre-Neuve, where the delegation met with local authorities. Discussions focused on the need to rehabilitate the main road linking the town to Gonaïves, a strategic piece of infrastructure for improving population mobility and facilitating local economic activity. Through these various interventions, the Government reaffirms its commitment to prioritizing local public action, based on listening to communities, coordinating between institutions, and implementing concrete responses to the needs of the population.
