iciHaiti - Regularisation : What you should know, 9 days before the deadline

According to available data 239,368 persons in irregular migratory situation have registered in the Dominican Republic at the National Plan for the Regularization of Foreigner (PNRE) (Dominican Chancellery figures June 6, 2015) including 222,033 Haitians, or 96% of all regularization applicants. On the 222,033 registered nearly 86.900 had a passport, 78,400 a birth certificate and 56,700 an identity cards.

Only about 2% of all foreigners have met all the requirements of the Decree 327-13: links with the Dominican society, socio-economic status and proof that the person was in the country before October 2011.

The total number of illegal aliens in the Dominican Republic is not precisely known. The only valid estimate is that of the National Survey 2010 on immigrants, indicating a number of 524,000 foreigners in the country. A number probably higher today but not verifiable.

20,000 to 25,000 Haitians have applied for identification document at the Embassy of Haiti, but still received nothing. The Dominican authorities have accepted that a person in that situation, can register by submitting as evidence the receipt of the provisional application issued by the Haitian Embassy in the country and by proving that it was already present in the Dominican Republic before October 2011.

From June 17, 4:00 pm PNRE offices across the Dominican territory, will not take any registration. Already registrants with incomplete files, will have 45 days from that date to complete their dossier with required documents. There will be no registration extension after 17 June 2015.
