The Embassy of Canada in Haiti recently participated at the inauguration of the Rural Electrification Project of Labrousse (PERL) (South West of Port-au-Prince). This project is realized by the Fondation Paul Gérin-Lajoie and its Haitian partner, FODES-5, and was financed by Hydro-Québec, the Department of International Relations and Francophone Quebec and the Union of Quebec Municipalities.

It allowed the installation of a grid that can supply 46 homes and street lights in the village. It reinforced existing solar systems for community radio, schools, church and health center.

The Cooperative Energy of Labrousse, consisting of residents and members of FODES-5, will assume management and operation of the electrical system and facility maintenance.
