iciHaiti - Environment : Facing the Challenges of Climate Change
As part of the 2nd edition of ELAN Haiti 2016, the largest international youth forum in Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18302-haiti-social-2nd-edition-of-the-international-forum-elan-haiti-2016.html , the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP-Haiti) was invited to participate in a panel discussion on "Climate Change and insularity in a Caribbean context".

One of the relevant questions asked to UNEP was to ask it to propose a project idea for which young people could engage effectively to adapt to climate change in Haiti. The spontaneous response of Maximilien Pardo, the UNEP Programme Coordinator in Haiti, was to develop a dynamic partnership between the Haitian youth, universities, vocational schools, the private sector and the Government. t. The objective would be to identify and develop curricula and vocational training which should more be developed in Haiti for the present and future generations are equipped with all the necessary tools to face the challenges of climate change affecting the economy, the environment and Haitian society as a whole.

UNEP has identified three promising sectors for which the training of the youth would be an asset: science and marine / coastal management, eco-tourism and renewable energy and concluded by adding that such initiatives could take shape through South-South cooperation targeted based on the expertise available in the nearby islands of Haiti.
