Aviol Fleurant, Minister of Planning and External Cooperation, held a working session with Ambassador Chile accredited to Haiti, Patricio Utreras on bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Minister hoped that Haiti would benefit from the Chilean experience, a country in the process of becoming an emerging country and also wanted to know how to use this cooperation in order to stop the massive emigration of Haitians to Chile. On this last point, Ambassador Utreras expressed his concern about the fact that Haiti was losing a good part of its youth with this uncontrolled process...

On the Chilean experience, the Ambassador explained to the Minister the different steps that his country has taken to reach the level it is today. The first was to work on the strengthening of democratic institutions so that it could then lay the groundwork for an acceptable degree of fiscal consolidation in order to achieve responsible government. In addition, Chile has carried out many reforms, including reform of the tax system and reform of an economy open to foreign trade.

One of the most important points for the Minister Fleurant was the study of the tracks for the relaunch of the country program Haiti-Chile around the main government priorities. The two men agreed to set up a working group of experts from the Ministry and Chile, which will be responsible for preparing and designing the country program, with a view to signing a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding.
