Following a meeting last May in which the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (Federación Dominicana de Distritos Municipales - FEDODIM) and the Association of Municipalities of the Haitian Border had agreed to reforest the communities most affected by deforestation in Haiti; an agreement will be signed at the Fedodim Congress in Punta Cana on October 5th.

To this end, a large delegation of Haitian mayors from Port-au-Prince, Ounaminthe and other Haitian municipalities will visit the Congress in which the Dominican Federation will engage with its Haitian partners to reforest part of the area border with mostly fruit trees.

Following the signing of this agreement, both parties will work on the issue of participatory budgeting, in which the mayors of the Dominican Republic will offer technical advice to their Haitian colleagues, it will be also question of trade and interconnection between companies on both sides of the border.
