Monday, the Dominican Council of Northeast Regional Development (CRD) has proposed to President Danilo Medina several important infrastructure works including the construction of an international railway.

According to CRD explanations, this railway would pass through the ports of Haina, Caucedo, cross Cibao Central and the Province of Puerto Plata to the north of Haiti, the end of its route. What's according to Iscrates Peña, Director General of the CRD, an organization made up of different organizations of Cibao resulting in great profits for the trade of the two countries.

They also proposed the construction of a national railway in the Dominican Republic that would use existing old railway lines that operated in Cibao and in the south of the country.

The CRD states that these proposals have socio-economic studies of location and feasibility and that would guarantee the return of investments, which could be financed and supported by the private sector, while others, because of their size, would need state support.

It remains to know the political position of Haiti, its financial participation in regard to the part to be carried out on its territory and its conditions ... This inter-nation railway project is not new and dates back several years without any it has become a reality other than on paper...
