Strengthening quality controls for petroleum products
The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) inform the public that quality control measures for petroleum products imported and sold on the national market are being strengthened. These measures are primarily intended to prevent the distribution of contaminated or non-compliant fuels, which could damage vehicle engines and other equipment belonging to users. The framework includes the verification of quality certificates, the collection of samples for laboratory analysis, and more rigorous oversight during the receipt, storage, and distribution of these products. The Government has also revised the quality standards applicable to the import, marketing, and distribution of petroleum products and has communicated these updates to all operators in the sector. The implementation of these standards is accompanied by enhanced monitoring of the maintenance of tanks and storage facilities, ensuring that fuel quality is preserved until it reaches the consumer. Importers, terminal operators, and distributors are required to adhere to these quality standards and are expected to cooperate fully with the relevant regulatory authorities. Within the scope of their respective responsibilities, all stakeholders must ensure that product quality is maintained throughout the entire supply chain. Through the MCI and the MEF, the Government reaffirms its commitment to protecting consumers and their equipment, safeguarding public health and the environment, and ensuring a steady supply of petroleum products that meet established quality standards.
