Lesly Condé the Consul General of Haiti in Chicago has the duty to remind the entire Community that Saturday, April 7, 2018 brings back the 215th anniversary of the death of Toussaint Louverture.

"It is for each of us an opportunity to meditate on the importance of the passage on this earth of the man who deserved to be called "The First of the Blacks".

Toussaint Louverture is a symbol of bravery and integrity. Even though his heritage belongs to the whole world, he is first of all ours. We are the deep and numerous roots to which he was referring to the dark moment of his abduction.

If nothing can prevent us from being proud of Toussaint, we must also honor his memory by practicing like him self-esteem and solidarity.

At a time when our country is facing the challenges of the twenty-first century and is courageously moving towards change while remaining on the road to democracy, we must, like Toussaint Louverture, let us be guided by wisdom, patience and the determination."
