iciHaiti - Environment : Return of the Season of the Tree
The Board of Directors of Promotion for Development (PROMODEV) informs the Haitian population that the Season of the Tree in Haiti extends from April 15 to Friday May 25, 2018. In this framework, it is asked to all citizens, government authorities and members of the Civil Society, to take the initiative to plant at least one tree during this period or support sustainable reforestation activities across the country through religious organizations, schools, ministries, farmers' organizations, etc...

Recall that before 1990 in Haiti, the festival of the tree was celebrated annually the last Friday of May. This holiday was part of the Tree Season that ran from April 15 to the last Friday in May across the country through reforestation activities.

This festival, which usually celebrates the arrival of spring and nature, is practiced in many countries. It is also often an opportunity for public authorities to raise awareness by inviting them to plant a tree in order to limit the effects of desertification.

Note that the tree festival was initiated by J. Sterling Morton, then Secretary of State for Agriculture of the United States and Robert Furnas who decided to plant trees on April 10, 1872 in Nebraska City.
