iciHaiti - Justice : End of workshops on the law of legal assistance
Thursday, December 20, Jean Roudy Aly the Minister of Justice ended in the jurisdiction of the Court of Appeal of Port au Prince, the workshops of popularization of the law on legal assistance.

This initiative was supported by Minujusth and the Sector Strengthening Program (JSSP - Haiti) of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID - Haiti) and was able to cover the five courts of Appeal of the country, was an opportunity for judicial actors (judges, prosecutors, lawyers, clerks, police officers) to discuss the main lines of this law which has the virtue of contributing to facilitate access to justice for all litigants, especially those who can not hire a lawyer.

Minister Aly, while welcoming the contribution of the partners of the international community, insisted on the determination of the Head of State and the Prime Minister who do not spare any effort to strengthen the process of the Rule of Law in the country.

Ms. Robin Diallo, the former Chargée d'Affaires ai of the United States Embassy in Haiti joined the Ministry of Justice and Minusjusth to discuss the new legislation on legal assistance that will allow citizens Haitians, unable to hire a private lawyer, to have access to free representation in court. The USAID Justice Sector Strengthening Project supported the drafting and adoption of this law.

This project provides legal assistance to under-served residents of Port-au-Prince, Saint-Marc, Croix-des-Bouquets, Cap-Haitien and Fort-Liberté. The US government is committed to increasing access to resources and justice services for all Haitians.
