Following the sinking off the south coast of Florida of an 18-foot boat carrying 11 people on board, 9 Haitians were rescued https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-26562-icihaiti-drama-a-boat-of-haitian-migrants-capsized.html , the US Coast Guard announced that the searches of the two missing: a 9-year-old Haitian child and the alleged smuggler, a Bahamian national, were suspended.
The research ended Wednesday night after 69 hours of intense effort. Coast Guard crews conducted unsuccessful aerial and sea searches on more than 4,100 square miles (10,600 square kilometers).
Captain Aldante Vinciguerra said that this research highlights "the carelessness of smuggling networks" for the migrants they carry.
