Jean Michel Lapin, the Minister of Culture said he was deeply saddened by the death, last January 14 in his private residence in Port-au-Prince, at the age of 93 of the journalist and writer of neo Zealander Bernard Diederich.

Born in 1926 in New Zealand, Bernard Diederich, studied in England, participated in the Second World War in the Pacific. He crossed the seas and oceans by sailboats to settle in Haiti. Director and founder of the weekly Sun, Bernard Diederich is a great figure in contemporary journalism history.

Co-author of the reference book "Papa doc et les tontons macoutes" went into exile, under collegial government in 1957, and then under the Duvaliers. Bernard Diederich is a memory for the country and for Haitian youth. He is also the author of the books "Le Prix du Sang Tome II", "Jean-Claude Duvalier ou la chance galvaudée", "Blood in the Sun", "Island of Fear", "The Fools of April" among others.

Recall that on May 4, 2017, the Ministry of Culture had honored this journalist and historian, for his contribution and his commitment to the cause of democracy in Haiti, during the presentation of the Creole version of his work "Bebe Dòk"

Minister lAPIN while offering his sincere condolences to his wife, Dr. Ginette Dreyfus Diederich, salutes the independence of mind of this journalist and historian who marked the Press in Haiti as an attentive witness to our history as a people.
