Towards strengthening women's economic leadership in Haiti
On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, James Monazard, the Minister of Commerce and Industry (MCI), met with Marie Goretti Nduwayo, the UN Women representative in Haiti, to discuss potential collaborations in promoting women's economic leadership in Haiti. This meeting, held in the presence of Monalissa Dumbar, coordinator of the Women's Entrepreneurship Support Program (PAEF), and Roberto Augustin, an MCI official, provided an opportunity to discuss the initiatives already undertaken by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in the field of entrepreneurship through its various projects and programs, as well as ways to strengthen efforts to promote women's participation in the national economy. Discussions focused on supporting women entrepreneurs, their access to financing, markets, and business opportunities, as well as the need to promote greater representation of women in economic decision-making bodies. The discussions also explored opportunities for synergy between the various projects and initiatives of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) and the interventions of UN Women, particularly through capacity building, networking for women in the business sector, and the promotion of their economic empowerment. At the end of the meeting, the two institutions agreed to explore avenues for collaboration that could strengthen existing efforts and further contribute to promoting women's economic leadership in Haiti. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry reaffirmed its commitment to supporting women's entrepreneurship, strengthening women's access to economic opportunities, and promoting their full participation in the development of the trade and industry sectors, with the aim of contributing to building a more inclusive, dynamic, and resilient Haitian economy.
