iciHaiti - OPS/OMS : Donation of spare parts to the central garage of the National Ambulance Center
As part of the CERF-UEF project to strengthen the management of obstetric emergencies in the departments of North West and Grand'Anse, the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) is supporting the National Ambulance Center (CAN) for this purpose, at the end of September 2020, a ceremony was held to hand over spare parts and maintenance products for ambulances to the PAHO/WHO office.

Since the beginning of 2020, data from the National Ambulance Center (CAN) show that more than 35% of transfers from the CAN are dedicated to obstetrical emergencies (hemorrhage and eclampsia) even during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, given the state of the ambulance fleet and the lack of equipment and inputs in the ambulances, it is difficult for the CAN to respond optimally to all calls of emergency. Therefore, PAHO/WHO, through the CERF-UEF Project, is supporting the CAN's Central Garage in its efforts to ensure the maintenance of the ambulances with this donation of equipment and products.

The CAN's Central Garage, the largest ambulance repair and maintenance facility in Haiti, is experiencing multiple challenges related to a critical lack of spare parts and lubricants. The parts and products provided will allow the repair and maintenance of ambulances in the areas targeted by the project. The department of North-West has 3 ambulances that need major repairs (1 for the "hôpital Immaculée Conception de Port-de-Paix", 1 for the "hôpital de Jean Rabel"”, and 1 for the "centre de santé de Mole Saint-Nicolas”) and the department of Grand'Anse has 2 ambulances in need of repairs (1 for the "centre de santé Les Irois", and 1 for the “hôpital d’Anse d'Hainault").
