iciHaiti - Jean Bart case : BINUH preoccupied by the dismissal rendered by justice

On the eve of the launch of the 2020 Campaign 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) wishes to express its concern about the dismissal by the Haitian judicial authorities https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-32332-haiti-flash-dismissal-order-for-yves-jean-bart-president-of-the-fhf-in-the-case-of-sexual-abuse.html in the case of abuse of power and sexual assault allegedly perpetrated by Yves Jean-Bart the former President of the Haitian Football Federation (FHF), on young football players, including minors.
BINUH considers the elements of this case to be very disturbing and calls for an independent and full judicial process to be conducted so that the alleged victims can obtain justice. Considering the importance of putting a stop to impunity in matters of sexual abuse, BINUH welcomes the sanctions adopted by the FIFA Ethics Committee https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-32340-haiti-flash-yves-jean-bart-banned-for-life-from-football-by-fifa.html in this case and calls on the Haitian authorities to guarantee the safety of the alleged victims, as well as their right to obtain compensation.
It is also important that mechanisms are put in place to ensure that victims of sexual abuse and all other violence, as well as their defenders, are not subject to threats and intimidation, and can denounce these abuses in completely safety.
