iciHaiti - Dajabón / Ounaminthe : Dominican truckers suspend their transport in Haiti
The Dominicans National Transport Federation (Fenatrado) has suspended the travel of its affiliates' vehicles to Haiti through the Dajabón border post, due to insecurity and violence in that country.
Giovanny Escoto, Secretary General of Fenetrado in Dajabón, explained that this decision had been taken until the Haitian authorities guaranteed the physical integrity of Dominican truckers.
By not guaranteeing our safety, our drivers decided not to enter Haiti. We are not going to risk our lives," he said, adding that its members use the facilities of the General Directorate of Customs in Dajabón as a collection center, where their Haitian counterparts come to collect the goods to transport them to their territory. "This is an agreement concluded with the Ouanaminthe truckers' union," said Giovanny Escoto.
