iciHaiti - La Source : Monitoring of works on the «Les Anglais»

The containment and gabionage work undertaken by the Ministry of Agriculture, via the Reinforcement of Public Agricultural Services project (RESEPAG-II) on the river of Les Anglais in the locality of La Source (South Dept.), is progressing quickly as the handover approaches.

According to the project monitoring and evaluation manager, engineer Pierre Louis Mesidor, the underground catchment system with polyethylene pipes, the gabionage work carried out on several gullies in the first municipal section of Les Anglais, La Source, in particular on Lorminé, Morin 2, Ontélio among others, will prevent further damage and make it possible to recover agricultural areas lost in Les Anglais because of the flooding of the river during heavy rains.

Let's recall that concerned about the environmental degradation of the country, the Minister of Agriculture, Patrix Sévère, deemed it necessary to carry out this work on 622 hectares of land on the river, in order to avoid the worst.

In addition, the Minister is convinced that to protect watersheds and reduce the country's vulnerability in the environmental field, the population in general has a role to play. In this sense, he invited all citizens to use the plant propagation centers to restore the Haitian environment, estimating "Every citizen must be able to plant a tree and be able to maintain it," while urging the population to develop feelings of respect for Haiti's ecological heritage.
